Following the Civil War the United States experienced incredible growth in both industrialization and urbanization. Cheap labor, new technologies, hands-off government policies, and an abundance of raw materials merged and allowed for growth to take place. This growth brought abundant wealth to US industry and to many Americans. With an increase in economic opportunities, immigration quickly rose, forever changing the make-up of the United States. In addition to the rapid growth of industry and big cities there also came an increase of labor issues and social conflict.
